Inexpensive Homemade Adult Halloween Costumes

We know the recession has made for a really tough time for a lot of people. Let's face it, with nearly 10% unemployment rampant in the United States and people still fearful for their jobs (not to mention those who have given up looking and the people who have had to actually move back home), this is no time to be spending a fortune to buy a professional Halloween Costume. Instead, what you need are some ideas for inexpensive homemade Adult Halloween costumes. So, here for your consideration are several ideas I've come up with over the years.

First off, for sports fans out there, you may very well have the makings of a basic costume already. Do you have a jersey from your favorite sports team and baseball cap from the same maybe? That's a great start for a costume. If you're into football, put on the jersey for your favorite team and dig out your old football helmet from High School. A bit of paint under the eyes and you're good to go for the holiday.

For the ladies, try this interesting idea on for size – you can fashion a cape for yourself very easily by simply buying a piece of material. Go to a fabric store and ask to see the remnants. These are usually pieces that are left over and are too small for the store to sell for large projects, but you can often find pieces big enough for a cape. I used a piece of this kind of material to make a curtain and the way you make a cape is pretty much the same. Take your piece of some pretty material and buy a piece of solid material, either another remnant or splurge for something full blown.

Get a plain color that will match your remnant. This will be the lining of your inexpensive homemade adult Halloween costume (sorry, I have to mention that here). The plain colors are usually the cheapest. Now, use a glue gun to glue down the edges of the remnant to create your cape, but leave the top open. Next, get a piece of string or for something a bit fancier, ask the fabric store about ribbon or curtain ropes. Get a piece that would be the right size and then when you glue the top of the cape, simply place the string along the top, leaving yourself enough room so that the string or rope can slide through on either side.

Now, take the solid piece of material and glue it onto the back as a lining. Add in a cheap tiara and you could be a princess. Or just stick with the cape. Maybe buy a cheap walking stick at a thrift store. The possibilities are simply endless.

I want to be a geisha for Halloween. What should I use to paint face white? Worried about breaking out?

What can I use to get that china white geisha face? I am worried about breaking out because my skin is sensitive. I do not want to spend alot of money. A moderate amount is fine, considering I will only use this make up for Halloween. Suggestions? Thank you!

Assuming that you're doing the respectful thing and going for any level of authenticity at all, you're going to want something that will look opaque and matte (like porcelain, not at all shiny or wet) when you're finished. Real geisha and maiko get that look by using a thin layer of wax or oil on their skin and then applying two layers of Liquid Makeup plus a light layer of powder. You can buy real geisha makeup, but the real thing is rather expensive so I doubt you want to get into that. I've heard good things about Mehron makeup.
