What is the best material to use to make a lightweight set piece?

Hello! I have to make a set piece/prop for a show next week. It's going to be an exclaimation point 2 foot wide x 5 foot tall it also has to be at least 3 inches thick. I need to be able to paint it also. It's going to be suspended from a pipe and needs to be very lightweight b/c the pipe isn't weighted. Anyone have any ideas of what material I should use and where I could find it? Someone told me there is a special styrofoam that a lot of theatres use for props/set. Thanks so much!

My schools musical did a few light weight pieces. What we did was took styrofoam backed it with MDF and put cardboard on for the front and then painted and decorated it but ours needed to be free standing so you can probably oppt. out the MDF backing.
