Renaissance Clothing Thrills Wearers as well as Onlookers
Renaissance period, 14th century to 17th century, recognized for its cultures, traditions, happiness and bonding. The era is also popular for clothing. In fact, most of the rich men prefer to wear elaborate and highly-decorated renaissance clothing that was hand crafted from a range of rich and exclusive fabrics and finishes. In that period, clothing was the status symbol of people. In fact, the richer a family was the more luxurious and costly their Renaissance clothing was. Rich people like kings, emperors and queens used to wear clothes made with expensive fabrics such as fur and silk; while the peasants and other common people inured to wear simple clothes made with wool and cotton.
Renaissance clothing did not lose it charm with the passage of time. Still, people love to explore clothing of the period in various occasions such as theme parties, arrange Ren fairs and theme anniversaries. Most of the trendy and fashionable women used to wear five layer clothing which include skirt, vest, bodice, underskirt and collar. In fact, wedding dresses of the era were beautiful in their appearance and made of brocades. Moreover, beautiful jewels were also stitched onto them increasing charm and look to the great extent.

Renaissance Men
Who were some men during the renaissance period that contributed any achievements or made a difference?
There are so many...here are a few major ones:
Thomas More: English writer and politician, served Henry VIII. Wrote the book 'Utopia'. Was imprisoned and executed by the King when he did not support his divorce from Catherine of Aragon.
Queen Elizabeth I: Arguably the most successful British ruler in history, left a massive legacy behind.
Martin Luther: Wrote 95 theses on Christianity (leading to the Protestant Reformation) and nailed them on the Wittenberg Church door.
Leonardo da Vinci: I'm sure you've heard of him...he made great leaps both in art and science (anatomy).
William Shakespeare: English playwright whose works are still relevant today.
Michelangelo: Italian artist/sculptor/architect/poet. I'm sure you've heard of his statue David which is in the Louvre today.
Machiavelli: Italian political philosopher and historian. His most well-known work was called 'The Prince' which was about how royals could rule their countries through self-serving, politically corrupt methods.
Thomas Tallis: English music composer
John Milton: English writer. His most notable work is the book 'Paradise Lost', based on the story of the Bible's Genesis (the fall of Satan from Heaven and his tempting of Adam and Eve).
Medici Family: contributed their vast wealth to Florence, becoming patrons for artists, writers and sculptors, arguable making it the beautiful and cultured city it still is.
Isabella d'Este: Known as 'First Lady of the Renaissance' because of her contributions to Mantua, which she ruled after her husband died. She was very well educated, spoke many languages, and also supported artists and sculptors. She was one of the first important women.
Hope that this helps! You can find a lot more information on all of these people by googling them. I included two women in this because they had as much of an influence on the Renaissance as the men.

List of Renaissance Men $194.36 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The terms Renaissance man and, less commonly, homo universalis (Latin for universal man or man of the world ) are related and used to describe a person who is well educated or who excels in a wide variety of subjects or fields. The idea developed in Renaissance Italy from the notion expressed by one of its most accomplished representatives, Leon Battista Alberti (140472): that a man can do all things if he will. It embodied the basic tenets of Renaissance Humanism which considered man empowered, limitless in his capacities for development, and led to the notion that people should embrace all knowledge and develop their capacities as fully as possible. Thus the gifted men of the Renaissance sought to develop skills in all areas of knowledge, in physical development, in social accomplishments and in the arts. Invitation to Renaissance Italy $36.88 1930. With a Preface by Gilbert Murray. The Renaissance is often seen as an age of melodrama and villainy. This book makes you see with new intensity the light bearers who were neither melodramatic nor villainous, but men of virtue and therefore interesting: such, for instance, as Vittorio da Feltre among the children at La Giocosa, or the school of educators whose aim lay in communicating to youth the beauty of the past; or, most characteristic of all, the people of Castigliones Courtier, a group which might have walked out of the pages of Plutarch or St. Augustine, seekers by the lamp of Plato for that unattainable perfection which should at last give peace to the soul. Contents: The Mediaeval Dream and the Renaissance Morning; Social and Political Conditions; Intellectual Contrasts and Reconciliations; The Scholar; The Artist; The Courtier; Women of the Renaissance; Florence 143414941530; The Papacy and the Renaissance; The End of the Italian Renaissance; and The Renaissance Ferment. Author: Taylor, Rachel Annand/ Murray, Gilbert Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 396 Publication Date: 2005/06/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 6.00 x 0.88 inches |
