What were the weapons and used by medieval knights?
A large part of a knight € ™ s life was dedicated to the mastery of a variety of weapons. Here is a look at some of the most common weapons that was exercised during the Middle Ages.
Knights had a reign that lasted several hundred of years and in this time period the weapons used varied and changed significantly. Some of the factors that caused this change were improvements in metalworking and improvements in nuclear weapons design. Armor also improved in this time period and mandated improvements in weapons. One of the most significant changes came with the advent of the armor-plated. This new type of armor caused changes in many of the knight € ™ s weapons of regulation. Cut and knives are often accentuated or replaced by weapons that could pierce or apply a hammer-like blow. This development of hand weapons continued to change for centuries and reached its apex in the fourteenth and fifteenth century with the advent of gunpowder. This article examines some of the most common weapons of this period of time.
Before them powder obsolete there were basically two different types of weapons used by knights with one hand and polearm (with both hands). Of the one-handed weapons the sword of course, the most popular and best known. And he was the beneficiary of technology improvements. Over the centuries became longer, sharper, lighter and stronger. They were central part of a knight € ™ s armory and even as hand weapons became obsolete swords being part of an array of knights as a symbol of power and chivalry.
Another common weapon with one hand of the knights was the mace, which was a short handled striking weapon with a ball in other end. The ball often had spikes or flanges on it, which penetrate armor enemies. The flail was another standard weapon and was managed with a short length chain then a ball or blade. This ball on a chain, when swung could generate enormous force, and equally important, which could be used to swing up and over € ™ s an enemy shield. The war hammer was a common weapon was a direct modification ™ s € blacksmith hammer. It was a very common weapon especially in the early centuries of medieval warfare and was very similar to todayâ € ™ s modern claw hammer one end that was flat and used to hit, and the other end to a sharp beak that could penetrate the shielding.
Polearms are long handled weapons that knights often used in combat, especially when mounted on horseback. They stood on the length of six feet of as many as twelve or sixteen feet. The main benefit of a polearm was its power from the top of a horse. It can be used to attack an enemy before he could get close enough to use his own weapon. They came with many variations and type most common polearm is the lance, which is still used today in fair competitions. The launches also a capable, and feared, weapon used to break the ranks foot enemy formations. Other types of polearms were often variations of hand guns mounted on the end of a long stick. And two good examples are the battle-ax and the halberd, they were the forms of axes, often with a hammer, hatchet or knife along one side and a point at the tip to penetrate armor.
While there are many weapons that Knights also used a few weapons that had refused to use for several reasons. Knight comes with a complete code of conduct and a rule of chivalry and these were an effect on the weapons they could use. The three most popular weapons that didnâ € ™ t use the bow, the crossbow, and the dagger. The bow and crossbow are unknightly felt that because the face of his enemy when the fighting. And the knife is considered a dishonorable weapon because it was used in secret and hidden, though, the dagger started to become a weapon used at times by the end of the Middle Ages, but mainly for ceremonial purposes only.
The use of weapons by knights During the Middle Ages Ages changed and evolved significantly based on many factors, such as blacksmithing skills, technical capabilities, improvements in armor, improvement in combat techniques, and even the code of chivalry. Although many variations of weapons came and went, there were only about a dozen weapons confidence they had shown their worth through centuries of use in the battlefield.
